Beyond Basics was delighted to participate as a partner with Detroit Parks and Recreation, the Detroit Public Schools Community District, Michigan State University, and The Skillman Foundation in Summer Fun Centers for Detroit children.
Students around the globe are joining metro Detroit schoolchildren this year in expressing their thoughts on kindness through our International Art and Writing Project.

When we opened up the doors to our Family Literacy Center in October, we knew we would reach many but we didn’t know how the “many” would be packaged. We expected high school drop outs and older adults to walk through our doors, but to our surprise, a mother of 8 home-schooled children was the first to seek our services.
On January 15, we hosted our 2019 Leadership Series which featured CEO and Co-Founder of Life Remodeled, Chris Lambert, and NFL Running back, Joique Bell. The event was held at the Durfee Innovation Center and the focus was “Pursuing Passions.”
Keith Famie’s short film “A Day in the Life of Elijah Craft,” which chronicles how learning to read changed Elijah’s life, is one of the films featured in the highly prestigious IMDb-qualifying New Hope Film Festival in New Hope, Penn. that runs from July 20 to 29.
